Cunejo Returns with New Single 'Restart'

Recently, Cunejo keeps giving teaser on their facebook page about what's cooking this 2021. They are very specific that they will release their new single 'Restart' this June. And they did not disappoint fans because they just release the new single today. The band's comeback does not end there, there's even talk of a full-length album later this year!

I got a chance to talk with Julius Tan of Cunejo about what he & the band have been up during lockdown, the inspiration behind their new single, and the decision to release an album.

So you recorded Restart in 2018, before lockdowns started. But I have to ask, has the pandemic had much of an effect on your creative process?

Julius: Yes, of course. Mas maraming time ngayon. Yung mga song ideas na naipon and yung mga songs na tinago ko sa phone ko, natapos din. Half of the songs sa album, nabuo nang hindi kami nagkikita-kita.

If that so, did that come with any challenges?

J: Wala. Actually mas madali nga ngayon kasi home demo then papadala ko sa kanila. Compared sa magjajam kami tapos dun lang nila maririnig yung kanta.

How did you arrive at your title 'Restart'?

J: Sa Computer games. Nag-start talaga yung song na ito by the title, from there dun ko binuo yung kanta.

Can you tell me more about the new single?

J: Tungkol ito sa toxic relationship. To the point na gusto mo na lang ulitin at magkaroon ng fresh start. Guest musician pala namin si Japo Anareta sa song na ito. May meeting kasi ako with Tanya Markova that time about sa MV na gagawin ko for them, nasa Tower of Doom kami. Tapos may recording din ako ng vocals so sinamahan nila ako then natuwa si Japo sa kanta parang maganda daw lagyan ng keyboard sakto dala nya yung bago nyang keyboard ayun nabinyagan yung bago nyang keyboard.

If you could pick the thing you most miss about playing shows, and the thing you miss the least, what would you pick?

J: Nakakamiss lahat, yung traffic kapag pupunta ka ng gig, yung beer sa bar, yung bago mong makikilala.

What's getting you excited about the future right now?

J: Nae-excite akong matapos itong Covid. Kasi for sure magkakaroon yan ng explosion, lahat magbu-boom. Ewan ko lang ha, feeling ko lang. Kasi lahat ng tao sabik sa concerts, sa movies ganyan.

So, what can you tell us about what comes next? What should fans be on the lookout for?

J: Abangan nila yung MV ng Restart this July. By the end of the year, full album.
